1969


  • Opened on May 29, 1969, it initially featured 25 stores including anchors like Kmart, Safeway, and Dominion.
  • Other featured prominent chain stores such as Elks Men’s Wear, Jack Fraser and Tamblyn Drug Mart, and restaurants including JB’s Big Boy Family Restaurant and Roy Rogers. 
  • Bank of Montreal and Peoples (then known as Peoples Credit Jewellers) were also present on opening day.

1970s


  • 1972: "Phase 1" expansion began, increasing to 118 stores and 600,000 square feet, from its previous 25 stores, 350,000 square-foot maximum.
  • 1972: Simpsons, a 92,000 square foot department store, opened in August.
  • 1973: A movie theater

1980s


  • 1980-1981: "Phase Two" expansion began. The multimillion-dollar project featured 30 new stores, bringing the total to 185 stores.
  • 1982: The expansion was fully completed, adding new stores and a modern makeover with drywall, skylights, and new flooring. 
  • 1984: An indoor waterslide, built by White Water Slide Ltd, was opened in March, boasting over 380 feet of twisting, turning excitement at Canada’s first year round water slide.

1990s


  • 1990s: The Eaton's store was converted to a Zellers. 

2000s


2010s


  • 2010s: Target purchased most Zellers leaseholds and reopened the store as a Target location, which later closed and was purchased by Lowe's.
